UK nursery retail chain continues Middle-East expansion

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Mamas & Papas, a UK based retail franchise that specialises in nursery products, has expanded its brand in Bahrain. This is the 8th Mamas & Papas store found outside the UK. The remaining seven international outlets are situated in locations such as Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

Mamas & Papas’ International Director, Allen Hill, has said that opening the new store in Bahrain will help to continue the progress made in reinforcing Mamas & Papas as the number one brand in the retail field of nursery. Bahrain’s retail market is vibrant and offers exciting opportunities, with high growth potential. The initial trading in Bahrain performed well above the expectations, which highlights how significant the untapped demand is for quality designed nursery products.

In addition to the domestic market, the King Fahad causeway link, which travels from Khobar in Saudi Arabia to Bahrain, will bring help by introducing a huge influx of new customers. This will give an added financial benefit to the success that Mamas & Papas are currently enjoying with their commercial partners, Al Tayer Group.

Richard Faulkner, deputy chief executive of Mamas & Papas, has mentioned that they are currently working on opening further stores in conjunction with the Al Tayer group. They are talking to potential partners in several countries, including Turkey, Greece, Taiwan and South Korea.

Inflation is high but franchising still booming

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Inflation has hit the market and the property prices are falling but one industry that seems to be still strong is the UK franchising industry. It seems that when such a credit crunch situation comes, you have to choose between working for somebody else or becoming your own boss. For some people, franchising may be the perfect solution.

According to a recent survey by the International Franchise Corporation Limited, around 33 percent of people are still on the look out to set up franchises within the next three months. The survey took place among the age group of 34 to 45. Around 43 percent of respondents anticipated taking nearly 6 to 12 months to choose a franchise.

A total of fifty nine percent of the respondents use the internet as a primary research tool. The second most preferred method was face to face meetings in exhibitions. This particular survey mainly highlights the importance of the internet in providing potential franchisees with key information regarding potential franchise partners.

Research is the key to successful advertising and the internet has made it much easier to get all the information that you need whilst short listing potential franchisors.
