Franchisee-Franchisor’s harmonious relationship important for the franchise business’s success

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Franchising is increasingly becoming an excellent option for people in UK. Franchises offer people the opportunity to start their own business with the backing of an already established brand. On average, there is a greater chance for a franchise to be more successful as compared to any other individually owned new business. For a person who would like to open a franchise today, there are is a vast number of opportunities available in the market.

However, even within franchising, you will notice that a lot of franchise owners are successful while others are not reaping such rewards.

In order to be one of the successful franchise owners, it is important to understand that running a franchise requires a very high level of commitment from the person who decides to open one. Since the brand of the franchise is more popular than the franchise itself, it is very important for the franchisee to play by the rules set by the franchisor. A franchise owner will have to strive hard to ensure that the level of quality offered by his franchise is on a similar level with the company’s philosophy.

Franchisors also offer training guidance to their new franchisees. Taking advantages of the tips and incentives offered by your franchisor will also help you succeed in your franchising business. For any franchise to succeed, it is important that the franchise owner learns to run his franchise in harmony with the philosophy of the brand he is franchising.

Mail Boxes Etc. Names its ‘Franchisee of the Year’

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

The winner of the Mail Boxes Etc. ‘Franchisee of the Year’ award has been announced.  Dave Tester, franchise owner of Mail Boxes Etc. Brighton, was named the ‘Franchisee of the Year’ at a recent franchise conference held by the company.  Dave was awarded the title in recognition of his outstanding success and many achievements since launching his franchise in January 2006 and for the rapid progress he has made in developing his business.

As well as this the award recognises the huge contribution Dave has made to the Mail Boxes Etc. UK franchise network.  He is part of the franchise’s consultative Marketing Group and shares best practice with others in the network.  He has introduced new products and services and, also, identified new opportunities for his centre, which have been adopted by other franchise owners.

Chris Gillam, Mail Boxes Etc. Recruitment Consultant, congratulated Dave on his success, he said:  “We’re delighted to announce this award.  Dave’s personal success is well deserved and he has made a big contribution to Mail Boxes Etc. demonstrating his commitment to his own business and to the network as a whole.”

Mail Boxes Etc. is a one-stop business service centre and has a network of over 100 high street locations in the UK and Ireland.  Each store offers a wide range of quick, easy and cost-effective business services that include specialist packing and parcel delivery all over the world, mailbox rental, digital colour copying, professional lithographic printing, document finishing services, stationery, office supplies and postal services.  The company was originally founded in the USA and has a global network of over 6,000 outlets.

Before joining Mail Boxes Etc. Dave had a varied career that saw him working in the Middle East, USA and the West Indies.  He began looking into franchising when he sold his business selling insurance products to ex-pats around the world.  Dave said:  “I went to a franchise exhibition and met some franchisors, although none of the businesses held significant appeal until I went onto the Mail Boxes Etc. stand.  I already knew Mail Boxes Etc. from my time in the USA.  It seemed to offer great variety and I could see the potential for making a sound business out of the Mail Boxes Etc. franchise.  In the past, I had worked for an auction house on Bond Street, so I had some experience of this sector and realised how important a reliable pack and ship service is.

“I understood the value of the other Mail Boxes Etc. services and how they meet the genuine needs of local businesses.  Since opening three years ago, I’ve discovered that the demand is escalating, especially for courier services and mailbox rental and, recently for our Ordnance Survey-approved mapping and data service.”

Speaking about the award, Dave added:  “I am delighted to receive this award and give thanks to my staff and to my partner Sachiko without whose help, patience and hard work it wouldn’t have been possible.”

Franchise buying is a sure shot way to success

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Buying into a franchise is a sure shot method of self employment which saves going through the long and laborious process of getting a business plan in place with relevant funding to set up your own business. With a franchise on your side, you will be sure to get many perks and advantages a franchise business has to offer.

One of the main reasons why people prefer buying into a franchise is that, it is a tried and tested business. When you buy into a franchise, you have to basically follow the steps and guidelines put forth by the franchisor. This is not the case with most start up businesses since you will not have any formal mentor to tell you what needs to be done and how it needs to be done. Start up businesses also run the risk of failing if the market does not approve of their products and services. Franchises on the other hand are handled by larger entities that have been dominant in the marketplace for a long time.

If you plan to start an independent business, you will in probability rely on your team or your business partner for support and advice. With a franchise you will have constant head office support with all things related to your franchise. This is a major advantage since you have the constant assistance of the franchisor.

Choose your franchise according to your specific area of interest

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Once you have decided to open up a franchise, the next step is to determine the kind of franchise you would like to open. There are a lot of opportunities that are available to you in this field. Your decision regarding the type of franchise you open will depend to a very large extent on your own preferences and interests. If you end up choosing a franchise that doesn’t meet your tastes and preferences, this may affect your business and jeopardise your standing in that franchise.

If you are a person who loves to have a good time whilst eating and dining out with your friends, then a restaurant franchise will be best suited for your business requirements. Among the restaurant franchises, you will be able to choose between a fine dining franchise or a fast food type franchise according to your tastes.

If you are a person who is very interested in the appearance of houses or commercial establishments, then a franchise which deals with the interior decoration needs of such places will be a good bet for you. On the other hand, if you have some expertise in hair cutting or another part of the beauty industry that can be carried out in a salon, then you can opt for a franchise which allows you to do such work.

On the whole, it is important for the franchise that you choose, to really interest you. Choosing a franchise that suits your personal tastes will enable you to do better business and consequentially, reap the rewards and profits of your new business.

What you should know about buying a franchise

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

A profitable business is what every business person dreams of having. But the first thing you need to get a profitable business is to establish it. Fortunately, all those with the skills of running a business who have a reasonable amount of money can buy a franchise and run a business of their own rather than start a business right from square one. Franchises are currently being looked at as one of the most beneficial kinds of business available today.

Types of franchises
One of the best things about franchises is that there are numerous kinds that you can select from if you want to start up a business. These range from all kinds of services and products like auto repairs, catering and a lot more. The variety of franchises that are available makes it possible for people to find the kind of business that they would like and will be good at as well.

Are all franchises successful?
Usually all franchise businesses are successful because the business has already been established and is known to people. This gives customers that trust factor which can take years to build normally. Buying a franchise from a reputable business eliminates that problem, so you can safely say that all franchises are likely to be successful. However, management methods also play a big role in the success of a franchise.

In addition to being successful, franchises are also known to be very profitable and for this reason more and more people are becoming franchisees of established businesses.

United Carpets benefit from Allied Carpets collapse

Monday, July 27th, 2009

The recent collapse of most of the Allied Carpets chain is going to hugely benefit the leaders of the carpet market, Carpetright and AIM listed United Carpets. United Carpets is the premier carpet company in the United Kingdom which provides each and every carpet solution needed to have a great home or office.

New company, Allied Carpets Retail is set to retain 51 of Allied Carpet Properties’ two hundred and seventeen stores and may also get more from administrator BDO Stoy Hayward in the coming weeks. United Carpets house broker has also commented on this by saying that forty two of United Carpets’ seventy six stores are in close proximity to the Allied Carpets stores. Freddie George, an analyst for United Carpets said that they should see a three million pound rise in sales after the Allied Carpets stores close down. This figure will also account for ten percent of its total sales.

United Carpets will definitely benefit from this closure since they are closest to Allied Carpets stores in both sales and geographical positioning. Freddie George also said that the company will release its annual results on July 30th. Freddie George also stated that the company predicts profits of around 1.2 million at the end of March 2009.
