Case Study: Simon Dow - Active Soccer Warrington

After leaving university in 2002 with a degree in Sports Studies Simon was fortunate to gain full-time employment with Cheltenham Town FC as a community football coach. He performed this role for two years before going into leisure management, due to a lack of opportunities to progress in the football Industry.

After six years as a Leisure Manager for various hotel chains, Simon decided that he desperately wanted to get back into football coaching and began to look around for opportunities.

Having started to think seriously about taking on a franchise with his coaching experience and managerial background, Simon felt he had the qualities to make a success of it. After finding Active Soccer on a franchise website, Simon emailed for more information along with a few more franchises. He was delighted to receive a response that evening from Mark Whitwood of Active Soccer, who wanted to meet that week. They arranged a meeting and had a chat about Simon's experience, what the franchise consisted of, costs, potential revenue etc.

Simon recalls: "To say I was excited after the meeting is an understatement, Mark is a very likeable person who you warm to immediately and has some fantastic ideas that he has already used and new ones to use in the future. Active Soccer, as a franchise, was a great opportunity. The brand was there as was a growing reputation. Along with this I would have the ongoing support of Mark and the other franchisees.

"I can safely say this is the best decision I have ever made, although as you would expect it is hard at the start you have the support of Active Soccer and that support will drive you to success.

"I am now up and running and have just had all my current schools rebook for the new year along with four new schools which has all been achieved through hard work and by following the Active Soccer model and building a strong reputation.

Simon's aim now is to continue building his business up and achieving more and more as he goes along.

"By following the other franchisee ideas and implementing your own you cannot fail to make this Franchise a success," Simon concluded.
