Business Cleans Up With First Successful Year
An Ovenu oven valeting specialist from Ashford is celebrating after completing his first successful year in business, providing oven cleaning services to homes around Ashford, Folkestone and South East Kent.
Richard Clark has delivered the environmentally-friendly cleaning service to the local area, cleaning on average 40 ovens per month. He now receives regular bookings from residential clients, landlords, lettings agents and local schools leaving them with ovens, hob, extractors and microwaves that look like new.
Richard said: “I’m really pleased I have reached my first business milestone and I’m very much looking forward to growing my client base even further, now I have established a strong reputation within the local area. Many of my new clients now come from recommendations. My customers never need to clean their ovens themselves again.”
Starting a business during a recession could have been risky, but Richard found that by giving good customer service and peoples ‘make and do mend’ philosophy meant that many clients are sprucing-up their old appliances to save money rather than splashing cash on new ones.
“Customers are using the service because they want to keep their oven in working order so that it lasts longer and no-one wants to spend valuable time up to their elbows in a dirty oven.”
“One of the most satisfying parts of my job has to be seeing my customers’ faces once I have completed the job. Just standing back and seeing the pleasure on their faces is really great.”
Richard decided to take the plunge into becoming a franchisee after the threat of possible redundancy in his previous public sector job. Making a clean break from his annual salary job to become self-employed was not an easy decision for Richard, who is originally from Canterbury.
He had previously thought about owning his own business, but had never really focused on this ambition.
After completing extensive research into several franchising companies, Richard decided Ovenu was the clear choice, offering solid support and fully comprehensive training from a national business.
The Ovenu valeting process involves dismantling key components of an oven such as the door, interior panels, fan and shelves and placing them into design-registered tank equipment, which uses safe, non-caustic products to clean the oven parts. The whole process takes around 3 - 4 hours and leaves the oven, hob and exterior in immaculate condition.
Rik Hellewell, Founder of Ovenu, said: “It’s great to see Richard doing so well. The first year in business is always the most challenging to succeed, but his entrepreneurial spirit has proved it’s possible to succeed when people work hard and a have a stake in their business.”
