Just Falafel Appoints New Chef to Boost UK Food Offering
Just Falafel, the largest falafel chain in the world, has appointed Consultant Chef Gerard Murphy, from Visionary Gourmet, to expand the UK menu with a range of lighter meal solutions.
Murphy’s role will focus on introducing a new range of fresh, nutritious salads and creating a full range of mini-wraps and lighter sandwiches to offer lower calorie meal options to health conscious consumers, which will be available in-store from July 2013. Murphy will be also leading the charge on reviewing the current menu and updating existing recipes. Additionally, his role will involve developing a range of a healthy desserts and breakfasts, due to launch in October 2013.
Murphy brings with him 30 years of experience as a classically trained chef within the global food industry, working across independent and franchise restaurants, as well as gastro pubs and wider food service companies. He was previously Food Development and Application Chef at Kerry Foodservice, creating and developing menus for a global customer base, with wider experience working for restaurant chains including Little Chef and Harry Ramsden's.
Just Falafel's vision is to transform the fast-food industry by elevating the traditional Middle Eastern street food dish and giving it a global makeover, offering consumers a diverse range of authentic, fresh, great tasting, and highly nutritious 'good fast food' dishes.
The company has three London restaurants, open in Monmouth Street, Baker Street and Hammersmith, and plans to roll out 200 outlets in the next five years, including Charing Cross, Croydon and Cambridge over the next few months.
UK & Ireland CEO Michael Biggins commented: “We are thrilled to be working with Gerard to update our UK menu, as he brings with him a wealth of valuable local market knowledge and experience. Just Falafel has always strived to offer meals that are both delicious and nutritious, and by offering a wider choice of low calorie options for our customers, we hope to firmly establish our position in this area.”
