Businesswoman Scoops National Honour at Prestigious Award Ceremony
A Surrey-based entrepreneur has claimed the most prestigious national honour at the UK’s biggest award ceremony dedicated to entrepreneurship. Managing Director of Diamond Logistics, Kate Lester, claimed the prize in the Entrepreneur of the Year category at the first National Entrepreneur Awards at Birmingham’s ICC last Friday.
Lester received the award after her persistence, stamina and spirit have seen Diamond Logistic’s turnover storm into seven figures with a big uplift in profits. In the past 18 months, Lester has transformed Diamond Logistics by bringing it back into profit, doubling her employee numbers and creating six new franchises across the UK, with 20 further opportunities in 2014.
Lester has been working in business for 21 years and strongly believes in giving back to the community. The ’21 in 21’ campaign enables Diamond Logistics to donate to charity on a monthly basis, as a long-term commitment to making a difference in the UK and abroad.
The award ceremony was part of the two-day National Entrepreneur’s Convention, organised by Nigel Botterill’s Entrepreneur’s Circle, the UK’s largest membership organisation dedicated to the growth of small businesses.
Speaking about the award, Lester said: “It’s an absolute honour to receive the top accolade at the National Entrepreneur Awards, beating five other very strong finalists to the post. The calibre of the finalists is just proof that entrepreneurship in the UK is flourishing and if you’re willing to put the hard work in to make your business thrive, as I have in the last 18 months, you will succeed.
“Having a strong team around you is essential to build a successful business and that’s exactly why I’ve been able to franchise Diamond Logistics across the UK.”
The National Entrepreneur’s Convention was hosted by Entrepreneur’s Circle at the ICC on September 27 and 28 and featured a key note speech from Sir Chris Hoy.
