SureCare East Kent Hosts Mental Health Day

Leading mental health professionals took part in a training course organised by SureCare East Kent.

The free event was held at the Umbrella Centre in Canterbury and aimed to raise awareness among delegates on how to provide the best possible support for service users.

Leading care company SureCare helps people, including those with mental health conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, main their independence in their own homes for as long as possible.

Topics discussed during the half-day Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards course included current legislation, policy and procedures, and the roles of professionals working in mental health.

Among the organisations that attended the day were Kent Police, Catch 22, Porchlight, Umbrella Centre, Kent County Council and Kent Probation. Councillor Ann Taylor, the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, also attended. Every delegate taking part received a special certificate awarded by SureCare East Kent.

The event was hosted by Raj Jayaram, Managing Director of SureCare East Kent, and his care manager Donna Anderson.

Jayaram said: “Our carers have a huge amount of experience working with service users who suffer from a range of mental health conditions and we are finding this expertise in increasing demand.

“It is important that the various professionals involved in mental health work in partnership to provide the best possible care and support that we can. By doing so, we can ensure that as many people as possible are able to continue living in their own homes for as long as possible.

“We were delighted with the attendance at our training day and anticipate running a further course for mental health professionals in October.”
