#Scottish Franchise Week 2013 Ends on a `Try`

Over 230 business people gathered in Glasgow last week to share a motivational breakfast with Scottish rugby legend, Scott Hastings, in the penultimate event of Scottish Franchise Week 2013.

Hastings captivated the audience with his talk on how the hard lessons learned on the sports field can help the franchise sector succeed. Hastings was joined by Max Webb, founder of the Rugbytots franchise. Rugbytots is a pre-school play programme based on rugby and now operates globally generating several millions of pounds in revenue. Completing the speaker line up was John Hebson, who left the world of engineering to become a franchisee with global head hunters Antal International.

Brian Smart, Director General of the British Franchise Association, which hosted the breakfast in the Glasgow Hilton Hotel, said: “The Scottish franchising sector is truly alive and kicking. Rugby is all about teamwork and striving for a common goal. I think this perfectly sums up why franchising is so successful in Scotland. Franchise networks help each other and this week has all been about sharing knowledge and best practice through the series of seminars and workshops we have held during the week.”

Smart added: “There has been something for everyone at different stages of the franchise journey from people thinking of buying a franchise to experienced franchisors who want to refine and develop their franchise systems to make them better.”

Sponsors of this year’s Scottish Franchise Week were Bank of Scotland, a leading provider of finance for franchise businesses, and Platinum Wave, a bfa-accredited independent franchise consultancy based in Edinburgh.
