#Spring Cleaners Urged To Make Cash From Unwanted Items

‘Recycle your unwanted goods and make money’ is the message that retailer Cash Converters is giving spring cleaners, as it reveals that the majority of people turn out at least £100 worth of goods to friends, family or charity shops.

The research, commissioned by Cash Converters, also discovered that one in 10 people claim to have a staggering £1,000 worth of unwanted goods stashed at their homes.

However, with almost 75 per cent of people giving their unwanted goods to charity shops, a third passing items on to friends and family and almost 30 per cent throwing their belongings away, huge savings are being missed.

David Patrick, Chief Executive of Cash Converters, said: “It’s spring cleaning season and we are encouraging enthusiasts to sell their unwanted items rather than giving them away. In this economic climate, people can really benefit from de-cluttering their homes and making instant cash on the back of an unwanted games console or camera. “The majority of people save up to £100 from buying second hand, and the perception of being a savvy second hand shopper is ever increasing, with almost 40 per cent of people wanting to shout about what a great deal they have got.”

With the research also revealing that one in seven people store unwanted and unused items in their loft, Cash Converters is reminding people of their popular buyback scheme. Patrick continued: “Many people just put stuff in the loft because they can’t bring themselves to throw it away, or think it might be something they will use again in the future.

“What our buyback service does is enable people to sell their items, but guarantees them the right to buy it back within 28 days if they find it is an item they can’t live without.”
