In this momentous world cup year, the SUBWAY® brand is excited to announce that Daniel Sturridge, England and Liverpool FC footballer, will team up with the football legend that is Pele, as the latest SUBWAY® Famous Fan.

Before the tournament kicks off, Daniel will appear in an advertising campaign for the brand, alongside his childhood idol. The advert will see Pele give the young Sturridge some footballing advice, before showing how this has helped Daniel to become the footballer he is today. On TV screens from May 28th, the advert is an extension of the My Sub, My Way™ platform and will look to hero the Low Fat Chicken Teriyaki Sub - Daniel’s Personal Best.

Daniel Sturridge, England and Liverpool FC Footballer said “I am excited to become the latest SUBWAY® Famous Fan, joining other great names who are at the top of their respective sporting fields, as well as my childhood idol Pele. As a footballer making sure I look after myself is important and I am proud to be partnering with the SUBWAY® brand to inspire the next generation to get more active in their everyday lives.”

Manaaz Akhtar, Regional Marketing Director for the SUBWAY® brand in Europe, commented “We are thrilled to be working with an inspirational and talented sportsman like Daniel who is a true fan of the SUBWAY® brand. Providing everyone with healthier, great value options is important to us and that is why we have invested heavily in the development of our Low Fat Range to help everyone eat well and support active lifestyles, no matter what their goals.”The announcement follows recent news that the SUBWAY® brand has signed a multi-year commitment with Liverpool Football Club to become its Official Training Food partner.

Joining other SUBWAY® Famous Fans, Louis Smith, Anthony Ogogo, Tommy Bowe and Holly Bleasdale, Daniel will help to promote the brand’s commitment to supporting healthier lifestyles in the UK and Ireland. Working together, these elite athletes are able to engage with a wide audience and communicate the importance of making better choices when looking to achieve your personal best.

At the core of the SUBWAY® brand’s better-for-you offering is the range of nine Low Fat Subs, each containing less than three grams of fat per 100g and all under 321 calories per six-inch Sub. All our breads have added Vitamin D and Calcium and the 9-Grain wheat bread is fortified with additional fibre.

The decision to heavily invest in the promotion of its Low Fat Range not only supports the brand’s messaging but has led to the SUBWAY® brand collaborating with Heart Research UK, which has endorsed a customer’s choice for healthier options since 2009. As part of its nutritional journey, the SUBWAY® brand has made efforts to reduce fat and saturated fat across the product range, and is currently the only Quick Service Restaurant to have committed to all seven of the Department of Health’s consumer nutrition pledges.
